In this entry I will be discussing an NBA sports legend that maybe the greatest player to ever step on any basketball court. When I speak about Oscar Robertson I speak with a great smile. Although I never had a chance to watch him play in person, this man's legacy takes a back seat to no NBA player.

Can you believe any man can average a triple double for an entire season. The most amazing thing about that statistic is he could have done it a least 4 more seasons. He was the original big point guard and changed the way the position was played. Ask Magic Johnson how important this man was to the point guard position, and the game of basketball.

In this entry I will be discussing the greatest boxer of all time. It is hard to call Muhammad Ali just a boxer. It is even harder to see any other man be called the greatest of all time. His charisma and charm would be admired by the world that called him champion. Ali is one of the most recognizable faces in the world and he is the greatest character the sports world has ever seen.

No man in sports used the spoken word with so much flare. His mouth would prove to be legendary but his feet were a marvel to watch. He would shuffle his feet long enough to mesmerize his opponent and give himself an opportunity to deliver that devastating blow. He would float in the air like a butterfly captivating his audience and sting like a bee when your eyes became focused on the grace and beauty that he would display.

The Bruins might be seen as one of the most feared teams in the NHL, but their toughest battle might be overcoming a decision with great consequences on the ice and considerable repercussions moving forward.

The recent absence of Tim Thomas from the White House festivities has stirred up a lot of controversy in recent days. Thomas publicly declined an opportunity to share in his team's remarkable victory in last year's playoffs due to political reasons. Reasons he has made known to the world, and not just his teammates.

The Boston Bruins organization say they are fine with the decision. This is a fitting response considering the circumstance. But we all know that this is just a politically correct response that has no insight into the minds and hearts of his teammates.

His decision not to attend might be seen as Thomas upstaging a special moment in their lives. I can respect a person standing up for their beliefs and making decisions based on what they feel is right but was the decision made at the right moment and with the team in mind? Or was it just a political view selected to be displayed at a time chosen buy Tim Thomas?

The Bruins are coming off a loss last night and their are recent rumblings in the locker room. Tim Thomas was not between the pipes against the Caps but resting silently with his teammates. It will be his teammates that must now answer questions surrounding Thomas's decision. A decision to miss an important day in their lives and an important and inspirational day in Boston Bruins franchise history.

Only time will tell if Thomas's decision will overthrow Boston's dreams of another Stanley Cup. Strong team chemistry in any locker room can spark a team to great heights or blow up in the face of any man close enough to feel its flame. Every man has the free will to choose his own path towards greatness but he must remember the men that follow the same path.

After another disappointing and discouraging loss in Atlanta last night the Toronto Raptors find themselves looking for more answers. A big question mark surrounds a player that can't seem to find the confidence to open his door to stardom.

DeMar DeRozan might fly high over the Skies of Toronto but his confidence remains planted on the runway awaiting takeoff.

DeMar DeRozan has the tools to become a special player in the NBA on both sides of the ball. His athletic ability combined with his size at the 2 spot is a great combination for success in a league dominated by great athletes.

Without confidence in his abilities we will continue to see 2 sides of DeMar DeRozan. Any man who lacks confidence in his abilities will never have the ability to become great.

DeMar's lack of confidence on the court is seen most in the decisions he makes with the basketball. Although his jumper is getting better DeMar must understand his strengths and utilize his god given talents.

He needs to become more aggressive off the dribble and take the ball to the rim with ferocity. Some nights we see a glimpse of what he can become but other games his abilities are lost in a world of poor decisions and lack of aggressiveness.

Once DeRozan decides to become more aggressive with the basketball and stop looking for fouls he will get more calls and his free throw attempts will increase. There is no excuse for getting to the line less than 4 times per game for a player with DeMar's skill set.

Once he decides to attack the rim and not just introduce himself to the players protecting it his confidence will grow and his jumper will become more dangerous and less inconsistent.

All great players in sports have confidence in their abilities but the greatest have the ability to understand how to best utilize their talents to give them the best chance to succeed. When DeMar decides to play a more aggressive style of basketball his scoring will increase and so will his shooting percentage.

DeRozan might have all the skills to open his door to stardom but the key lies buried between a lack of confidence and poor decision making. When he decides to become more aggressive going to the rim, his confidence will take him to the next level. For now we will have to wait to see which DeMar shows up for the Raptors.

Since the lockout is now a memory I thought it would be fitting to select Great Sports Articles Starting 5. In a world of imagination these 5 NBA Superstars are selected as the 5 men I would choose to put on the floor to lead my team to victory.

This list is based not only on talent but around certain offensive and defensive strategies I would like to implement on my imaginary team. It also doesn't hurt that these 5 basketball icons are at the top of my list of favorite athletes in sports.

Give me your selections or criticise mine as all feedback is welcome. Lets get started at the number 1 spot with a PG that defies quickness and explosiveness but always has the right attitude to succeed.

Derrick Rose: Starting Point Guard

Derrick Rose will lead my team as point guard not only for his electrifying explosiveness but his genuine attitude and drive to reach greatness. His legend already has a nice chapter 1.

His ability to break down defenses off the dribble and finish at the basket will open up shooting lanes and create space for Kevin and Kobe to operate.

Derrick will run the offensive as the number 1 option and primary scorer. He must make decisions quickly in the half court when his shot is unavailable to leave time for our wing players to create their own offence.

Kobe Bryant: Starting Shooting Guard

Williams is averaging over 21 points and 9 assists per game but these numbers cannot describe the impact he can have on the court. He is the most complete and polished PG in the league. At the tender age of 26 Deron Williams has proven himself as an elite point guard in the NBA but his poise and leadership has propelled potential into greatness. It might not be known on the east coast but Deron Williams is an elite player and the best PG in the NBA. Superstars might be created in the media but true leaders are created through hard work and the ability to command respect.

Some say point guards like Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul have more skill on the defensive end. Others might say that Russell Westbrook or Derrick Rose have more explosive offensive talents. Deron Williams however has skills and attributes that these men do not possess. His size and strength cannot be contained off the dribble or in the post. While other players rely on steals to succeed on the defensive end Williams uses his strength and footwork to dominate his opponents. Deron Williams is the complete package that every basketball coach dreams about.

He has taken the Jazz to a record of 27 and 16 and leads the team in points and assists. With so many great point guards in the league this question is highly debated across the basketball world. Unlike other point guards in the NBA Deron Williams has the skill, size and strength to dominate on both ends. He may not have the flash or notoriety of other point guards in the NBA but his vision and leadership should not be overlooked and should never be questioned. How many ankles does Deron Williams have to break to get the respect he deserves.

When the Heat decided to introduce their big 3 to the world they should have considered alternatives that didn't included a light show combined with smoke machines. It might have been a showcase of talent and potential but this marketing disaster quickly became a display of ego and vanity. It was a moment in sports that I will remember for all the wrong reasons.

The Miami Heat did not have a great start to their self proclaimed dynasty but their chemistry is starting to show on the court. They have become one of the best defensive teams in the NBA and are creating an explosive style of fast break offense. When LeBron James said the Heat would win 7 championships I don't think he understood the enormity of his statement. He made this bold statement without even knowing who his teammates would be to start his journey. Winning championships in any professional sport is tough but to say you can win 7 without knowing your competition or teammates is ridiculous.

I do believe the Heat will win a title but winning 7 is unrealistic. Especially for a man with no titles to date. Is LeBron James living in a world created by his own ego or a world created by the people that surround him. Winning championships is never easy but believing in your own hype can lead a man down a dangerous path of regret and disappointment. Let's hope LeBron and the Heat can create a world that will show their greatness without vainglory.

Playing in North Carolina is an honour for any high school prospect. With a great Coach and national coverage every prospect has the chance to succeed on one of the biggest stages in College basketball. SF Harrison Barnes is a complete offensive player that can guard three positions on the floor. He is a threat to drive to the basket or shoot the three. Money may be the biggest part of professional sports but having a great player like Revis miss an entire season would have been disappointing. If you are the best at what you do, then I agree you should get top dollar. I also agree with honoring contracts. I do however disagree with the possibility of not being able to see the best of the best.

I hope the idea of an up-tempo offence is not lost in pre-season propaganda. The chemistry between the young guns in summer league play has been encouraging and inspiring. The combination of DeRozan, Weems and Davis opened my eyes to a new style of basketball in Toronto. A Canadian city that should feel excited to breath new life into a franchise waiting to explode into a frenzy of Canadian pride. A new era of basketball that doesn't exclude the talent we are seeing overseas. Ed Davis is not a replacement for Chris Bosh but his ability to run the floor is exactly what the Raptors are looking for in 2010. His ability to block shots and maintain a presence in the paint should help Bargnani further develop his status as the new franchise player. But don't forget about DeRozan. When Ed Davis gets stronger and develops his inside game there will be close to a dozen teams looking for a used delorean and a mad scientist.

The Toronto Raptors have failed to make the playoffs in 2010 and Chris Bosh is contemplating his future in the NBA. Brian Colangello also brought in a tough competitor that just happened to be a close friend of the Raptors franchise player. The pieces were in place to convince Chris Bosh that his future plans should include Toronto. However the performance on the court could not mirrior the potencial the Raptors had on paper. Chris Bosh will not resign with the Raptors and his new address will forever change basketball in Toronto.

Chris Bosh will leave Toronto as the Raptors franchise leader in points and rebounds. He has averaged 20 and 10 over the last couple of seasons. A remarkable accomplishment for any NBA Superstar. Bosh will be the greatest player to ever wear a Raptors jersey in its short history in the NBA. Toronto fans can remember a similar situation that involved an electrifying player that gave up on this great Canadian city. The difference is Bosh played with heart and played to win 82 games ever season he fiercely slipped on the Raptors colors.

However seeing the Cup presented in a Canadian rink would extend the pride felt by all Canadians after the 2010 Olympics. Vancouver winning the Stanley Cup is a destiny that cannot be denied. This is a Canadian team that is lead by a Canadian hero who captured Gold and the hearts of all Canadians. Let's put our rivalries aside and cheer for all Canadian cites that can make noise in 2010.

Hendrick and Daniel Sedin have been the two best players in the first set of playoff games.
These games have shown the parody of the NHL in 2010. Any team has a chance to raise the Stanley Cup. The top line for Vancouver is dominating and it doesn't seem that the Kings can stop the rise of Hendrick Sedin. I do have Crosby winning the Hart but I am probably wrong. Hendrick deserves the title as much as any player in the league. His playmaking abilities were on display in game 1. His vision behind the net showed why he is one of the best in 2010 and he showed the city of Vancourver an OT winner for the ages.

However the Canuck faithful would never have started a great celebration if it wasn't for the heroics of Roberto Luongo. The save he made in overtime can only be described as game changing. This is a moment that may spark one of the greatest performances in Vancouver history. The fact that his stick was caught in his skate will make this save legendary. I expect Louongo to quickly snap out of his funk and get hot fast. He has the ability to win games at the highest level. Don't forget about Edler because he may be the missing piece that will take the Canucks to the Final. But If one goaltender decides to shutdown the opposition any team can raise Lord Stanley. I think Louongo will take the Canucks to the Stanley Cup Finals and steal the spotlight when the lights shine the brightest.

Some of these players have the chance to become legendary on the greatest stage in basketball. But to be a great legend you need to win it all. Durant and Wade might have killer first rounds but two superstars have a chance to become a part of NBA history.

LeBron James and Kobe Bryant have the best chance to lead thier teams to an NBA Championship and iconic status. Two of the best players in the league today and men that can transform the game into a memory that can last a lifetime. The playoffs are a time when memories can lead to Championships and legends are not born but crowned. The Raptors needed a win and a Chicago loss to make it into the 2010 NBA postseason. Unfortantly for the Raptors the Bulls came out strong with everything on the line. The Raptors showed us the weakest part of their game with another display of inferior perimiter defense. They managed to beat a rebuilding Knicks team but if this problem cannot be addressed next season, 2011 will be much of the same. We did see some bright spots in the last game of the season. Sonny Weems and Demar Derozan showed the athleticism and confidence that can take this team to new heights come next season. Weems' dunk was unreal but Derozan showed why his potential is the future of basketball in Toronto. With Amir Johnson in the mix this could be the young trio that succeeds when Bosh decides to leave the Raptors. A valiant effort but another diappointing year in Raptor land.

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade will shock the Basketball world!

This will be the biggest summer in NBA history. The class of free agents is as deep as the Atlantic Ocean after the fish have left the pond. We all are waiting to see what the league will present come next season. The free agents are numerous but the talent is limited. If you want to win a Championship, only a few players will be available to share the glory. LeBron James and Dwade are two superstars that will be willing to share the glory and show a city a championship that has been a long time coming. Can these two players co-exist as superstars or will they try to start their next journey as a solo act.

Their are some teams that are expecting to acquire these two players in the off season. This will leave a lot of teams in the NBA without a superstar and more importantly without a playoff contender. Teams like the Knicks are putting all their fish in one barrel. If they cannot land a big name talent these teams will be left with nothing more than money dangling on a rusty hook over an empty barrel known as NBA free agency. There is a great chance that these two All-Stars will stay with thier respective teams, battle each other every year and win numerous championships on their own. I will still watch and cheer on each player as they lift the game to spectaular hieghts.

But this will not happen. I believe both players will shock the basketball world and team up to create the greatest duo of all time. It will be the start of a great dynasty for the new generation of NBA fans who haven't had a chance to see a team dominate like some of the teams in the past. I love watching LeBron James and Dwade going head to head but to see them team up with the same jerseys would transform the basketball world. Imagine if Chris Bosh Decided to join these superstars. Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Lebron James all decide Brooklyn is the right move?

I am not sure what jersey both players will decide to wear but do not think for a moment that this can't happen. Both players are close friends and have played for Team USA not to long ago. The talent should never be a question and the chemistry would spark a fire that the NBA could only hope to contain. These are unselfish players that would work together on the defensive end and dominate any defense that thought they could match up with two of the greatest the game has to offer. The world awaits for the moment James and Dwade decide on their future. Don't be suprised when the future plans of both players are to dominate the NBA and create a new kind of friendship. A friendship that can lead to a dynasty, and a dynasty that can lead these great players to heights the sports world has never seen. Welcome to the new NBA.

Darryl Sutter's career and the future of the Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames have played their final game of the 2009-2010 season. A season that had potential to bring great things to a city hungry for a Stanley Cup. On paper the Flames had everything a team would need to make a run in the playoffs. A powerful and deep defensive core with a top 3 goaltender to carry the load. A recipe for success in the NHL. However the one ingredient missing in this tasty dish was a serving of scoring punch. Darryl Sutter made the moves to put this team in contention or on the road to future failure. Unfortantly for Calgary fans the plates are empty and the hunger still remains. Darryl Sutter should be fired as the Calgary Flames General Manager.

Sutter had iconic status as a coach in 2004 when the Flames stood one goal away from their second Stanley Cup. Since this eruption in Calgary the flames have never made it past the first round of the playoffs with Sutter calling the shots. Before this season I never thought Sutter would be fired. However after some questionable moves over the last couple of seasons he should be fired. Not trying to sign Cammalleri when the team desperatly needed scoring was wrong. Over the last few seasons the Flames have been giving away draft picks and have continued to grow older. What prospects do the Flames have in the system that can become the future of hockey in Calgary? Trading Dion Phaneuf might have been his only option but how can Sutter trade one of his greatest assets and only get second line players in return.

I don't think other General Managers even had the opportunity to make offers for one of the best young defenseman in the league. Why would Sutter not try to get that first line centre the Flames have been desperatly lacking to play with Iginla. The Olli experiment didn't work and sometimes you have to cut your loses. But how can you justify trading a core member of your hockey club and not get the piece that could bring the city of Calgary another Stanley Cup. I forgot to mention that Sutter signed Matt Stajan to a 4 year contract worth almost 4 million a year. Is this the first line centre the Flames have been looking for?

The Flames are in trouble and Sutter's head is firmly placed on the chopping block in Calgary. Darryl Sutter is a great hockey mind but the time for results has past. The Flames loaded up on defense and forgot about the value of scoring goals in this new NHL. Every player should share the blame but Darryl Sutter will get fired for not finding the best playmaker to share the stage with his best player. Even with Phaneuf as a great bargining chip. Sutter had options but the choices he has made will lead the Flames into a spiral that may take years to recover from.

The Raptors lose big in the biggest game of their 2010 NBA season.

If you wanted playoff intensity a couple of weeks before the NBA postseason the Raptors vs Bulls Sunday match up was exactly what the doctor ordered. Both teams are battling for the 8th and final playoff spot in the East. You could feel the intensity and urgency from the opening minutes. Both teams find themselves looking up at the rest of the field in the Eastern Conference. Both teams can see the light at the end of the tunnel but unfortunately it is just a glare from King James' magnificant crown. It would be a great accomplishment for the Bulls or Raptors to make the trip to Cleveland and face LeBron and the Cavs. It will be a short series for either team but just making the cut would be an accomplishment for two underachieving franchises with extremely high hopes.

Hedo Turkoglu's performance in the first half might have been 70 games too late but it shows Raptors' nation why Colangelo decided to bring him into the mix. Turk's season to date has been a disappointment at best. Maybe Portland was a better situation for Hedo. He never played to the potential that landed him his big contract. If the Raptors make the playoffs maybe Turkoglu can prove to the city of Toronto that his game is still waiting to be discovered.

The Toronto Raptors couldn't win the biggest game of the season. The Bulls destroyed and embarrassed the Raptors on their home court. The fans understood the importance of this game but the Raptors could not even keep this game close in the 4th quarter. The Bulls won almost every quarter. If I was a betting man I would say the Raptors are done. They do not look like a team that wants to do whatever it takes to win. In the biggest game of the year the Raptors could not produce. Changes need to be made in Toronto even if the Raptors make the playoffs. Bosh will not resign and decisions need to be made at the highest level. The Raptors have a sickness called inconsistency. I hope Callangello went to medical school because the this team needs a prescription that can lift them from mediocrity.

LeBron James dominates 4th quarter but misses big shot in Boston!

The Cleveland Cavaliers could not pull off a tremendous comeback today againist the Celtics. The Cavaliers erased a 17 point deficit in the second half as LeBron James displayed his athleticism and power for all of Boston to admire on Easter Sunday. His domination in the 4th quarter was fun to watch. Each and everytime he decided to take the ball to the hoop you could feel his domination. The Celtics had no answer for the reigning MVP. Every team in the NBA searches for the answer to the question of controlling the King and the Celtics are no different. When James decides to dominate a game, the opposition can only bow down and show respect for his game changing skill and power.

It was easy to see that James made the decision to take over the game by using his strength and size. When he attacked the basket he would muscle away any defender with the arrogance to think they can contend with his overpowering ability to dominate a game. This being said the decision to take a 3 pt shot when the opportunity to drive to the basket was an option, might be questionable. I can understand being on the road and having the chance to win the game with one shot. However James did not hit a single shot from behind the line all game but dominated the paint. James also missed 2 crucial free throws in the final minutes. This just adds to the question that has been surrounding LeBron during his NBA career. Can LeBron James hit the big shots when the game is on the line? If James wants to be known as the greatest of all time, or even the greatest in the game today this question needs to be answered more frequently. There is no doubt LeBron James is the greatest player in the game today. He will probably win 7 or 8 MVP Awards and a couple of Championships in his career. However if the game is on the line with seconds to play Kobe Bryant would always be my first option in today's game.
